Markita Samuel defines success as making an impact on the lives of the people she has the opportunity to serve. This track record of success started during her days at Florida A & M University (FAMU) where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education. Her passion for service allowed her various leadership positions in student government and awarded her the Outstanding Junior Award and the Golden Image Award at the renowned FAMU. Markita continued her academic studies at Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She went on to engage in legal, social policy, and legislative work. This experience, her educational background, and a desire to actively engage her community through economic and entrepreneurial empowerment were the vehicles that help her birth Making Straight Paths.

Outside of her career, Markita is a philanthropist who has served with several notable organizations - Breath of Life International Ministries, Lakewood Church’s The League – Strengthening Women in the Workplace, the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, LiftFund, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), City of Houston Women and Minority Owned Business Task Force, and the newly formed Business Ecosystem Alliance for Minorities and Women (BEAM-W).
